I have just been to Japan recently, and the highlight of the trip must be the visit to the islands where the Setouchi Triennale (瀨戶內國際藝術祭) take place. I went on the 17&18/12/2016, which was outside of the Triennale period. Less artworks were displayed but I had the benefit of appreciating the exhibits without the crowd (and the warm weather as well).

My trip was not very well planned where I had to leave Osaka at 6am to catch the right Shinkansen, local train and ferry. Luckily, I managed to board on the 'scheduled' train and arrive at Naoshima at ~10am.

The first artwork is the famous pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama just at the Miyanoura Port.

A 2 minute walk will lead you to another artwork by the port - The Pavilion by Sou Fujimoto.
